 HOW will I benefit?

  • The consumer protection provisions of the Property Practitioners Act 2019 (PPA), which came into effect in February 2022, has provided a massive boost to the South African home inspection industry by requiring sellers and agents to disclose the condition  of the property to all prospective buyers.  The PPA will soon come into effect.  This consumer friendly new law is putting big pressure on both estate agents and home sellers to make use of independent, qualified home inspectors in order to protect themselves by ensuring that prospective buyers are fully informed regarding the actual condition of the home they want to buy. Recent High Court cases have strengthened consumer protection for home buyers.  It is forecast that the PPA will create many job opportunities for independent inspectors who are properly trained as regards South African building regulations, building standards and building practices and methods.
  • The new Building Inspector qualification will trigger huge opportunities for qualified inspectors within the South African home inspection industry as the banks and insurers come on board.  SAHITA is a key stakeholder in shaping this qualification and once the qualification is registered, SAHITA will seek accreditation as an official course provider.  SAHITA is committed to assist existing graduates in attaining accreditation.
